Abia State Governor Otti Accelerates Renewable Energy Plans

On Thursday, Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti pledged to expedite renewable energy initiatives in the state by addressing implementation delays and activating existing agreements with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

This commitment was made during a meeting with a delegation from the REA, the Ministry of Finance Incorporated, and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles at the Government House in Umuahia. Otti expressed confidence in Abia's potential for significant renewable energy deployment and assured the delegation that pending issues would be resolved within 14 days.

He mentioned the state's progress in deploying electric buses as part of its green energy program and announced the immediate appointment of a state focal person to enhance coordination with federal agencies. Dr.

Abba Aliyu, Managing Director and CEO of the REA, noted that a Memorandum of Understanding signed with Abia State last year faced delays but emphasized the agency's readiness to support the state upon demonstration of commitment to the projects.
