Abia State Confirms ₦1bn Spent on 12 Vehicles

The Abia State Government announced that it spent ₦1,003,091,350 on the procurement of 12 Toyota Hilux vehicles, correcting an earlier claim of ₦2 billion for two vehicles. This clarification was made by Prince Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, on Wednesday.

The discrepancy arose from a “quantity-entry error” in the 2025 Accountant-General’s Report, where the figure ‘2’ was mistakenly published instead of ‘12’ due to the omission of the digit ‘1’. The verified payment schedule included costs from Ubale Services Enterprises and Globe Motors Holdings Ltd for the vehicles.

Governor Alex Otti emphasized the administration's commitment to transparency and accountability, stating that any mistakes in official publications would be promptly corrected. The government plans to issue a formal correction with an explanatory note to ensure accurate public records.

The administration remains dedicated to responsible management of public resources and will continue to publish financial records for public scrutiny.
