Abia State Launches Ambulance Service to Save Lives

The Abia State Government has unveiled a new ambulance service to address the high rates of maternal and newborn deaths in the state. This initiative was announced during an event in Umuahia on Friday, led by Health Commissioner Enoch Uch and directly commissioned by Governor Alex Otti.

The program aims to enhance emergency transport systems across the state, particularly targeting three local government areas identified as high-burden regions for maternal mortality. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure that pregnant women can access urgent care within 25 to 30 minutes.

The state government is also focused on recruiting qualified medical personnel and improving healthcare worker incentives. Additionally, alternative solutions such as procuring tricycles for rural areas and deploying drones for medical supply delivery are being implemented.

Governor Otti's administration emphasizes a commitment to transforming healthcare access for all citizens in Abia State.
