Abia State to Establish Safety Commission for Standards

On Friday, Abia State Governor Alex Otti revealed the intention to establish the Abia State Safety Commission, which will ensure effective regulation of safety standards across homes, offices, and markets in the state. This announcement was made during a meeting with members of the House of Representatives Committee on Safety Standards, led by Chairman David Idri Zakaria.

Governor Otti disclosed that the policy has received approval from the state executive council and is awaiting legislative action for full implementation. He emphasized the importance of public reorientation towards safety consciousness as a crucial measure to prevent disasters and protect lives and property.

The governor highlighted the need for continuous education on safety, including the availability of fire extinguishers, and pointed out the dangers posed by unsafe practices such as the presence of exposed electrical wires and combustible materials. David Idri Zakaria also expressed concerns regarding non-compliance with safety standards affecting lives and businesses in Nigeria.
