Anosike Promises Tax Reforms and Wage Increases in Abia

Dr. Kelechi Anosike, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Abia State, announced his campaign promises during a radio simulcast in Umuahia. He plans to abolish daily taxes on wheelbarrow and truck pushers, which he deems excessive, and introduce a welfarist tax regime to alleviate the financial burden on workers, traders, and artisans.

Anosike criticized the current heavy tax regime and highlighted the struggles of traders in the Ariaria International Market. To enhance revenue without overburdening citizens, he aims to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to boost the state’s economy.

Additionally, he promises to raise the minimum wage to N90,000 for the lowest-paid workers, clear all gratuities and pensions within 100 days of taking office, and establish the Abia State Salary Review and Restructuring Committee to address salary discrepancies. Anosike's campaign is set against the backdrop of the upcoming elections in February 2027.
