Ogun State Launches Health Insurance for Retirees

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved the launch of the Ogun State Retiree Health Insurance Scheme, which aims to provide comprehensive health insurance coverage for retirees of the state. The initiative, announced by the state head of service, Kehinde Onasanya, is designed to ensure that retired public servants continue to enjoy access to quality and affordable healthcare services.

Under this scheme, the government will pay a monthly premium of ₦17.4 million, allowing retirees to benefit from full insurance coverage without any personal contributions. This initiative marks a significant milestone in the social welfare agenda of the current administration, reflecting its commitment to safeguarding the health of retired officials who have dedicated years of service to Ogun State.

The scheme follows the successful implementation of a public sector health insurance scheme for active public servants introduced by the government in August 2024, further demonstrating the administration's focus on inclusive healthcare coverage for all categories of workers, including retirees.
