Fagade Advocates for Structured Tourism Regulation in Nigeria

Abisoye Fagade, representing a federal government agency, stated the necessity of creating structures to standardize the tourism industry in Nigeria. He noted that many associations are not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), with only 6 or 7 out of 17 being active.

Fagade emphasized that without proper registration and training, the industry cannot justify its treatment by the government. He highlighted the need for regulations similar to those in aviation and telecommunications, asserting that the private sector drives these industries.

Fagade mentioned the collaboration between the National Tourism Development Agency (NTDA) and the Nigerian Institute of Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) to establish a framework that benefits both associations and the agency. He stressed the importance of elevating service standards, including mandatory training for staff, to improve the tourism sector's reputation and attract more visitors.
