NIHOTOUR's Dr. Fagade Advocates for Tourism Reforms

Dr. Abisoye Fagade, the Director General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), asserts that ongoing reforms in Nigeria's tourism and hospitality industry are designed to professionalize the sector rather than target its operators.

He highlights the necessity for a structured approach to ensure the industry's survival, noting that many associations are not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and that only a few are active. Fagade emphasizes the importance of regulation, stating that the private sector drives various sectors in Nigeria, including aviation and telecommunications.

He mentions the collaboration between NIHOTOUR and the Nigeria Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) to establish effective structures. Fagade stresses the need to eliminate unqualified operators and improve service standards, which include mandatory training for staff twice a year.

He argues that without proper registration and oversight, it is challenging to maintain service quality and create clear career paths within the industry.
