FTAN Advocates for Tourism Law Review, Not Personal Attacks

On August 25, the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), led by President Dr Aliyu Ajayi Badaki, stated that its advocacy for a review of the laws governing the tourism sector is not aimed at the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), or their leaders. FTAN emphasized that its focus is on ensuring the NIHOTOUR Act 2022 and NTDA Act 2023 align with the current realities of the tourism industry and safeguard the interests of operators, investors, and stakeholders.

This clarification followed a commentary by Frank Meke, which FTAN claimed misrepresented its stance on recent developments involving NIHOTOUR and its Director-General, Dr Abisoye Fagade. FTAN asserted that its concerns are not personal and should not be misconstrued as opposition to any individual or institution.

The federation also defended its advisories to members, stating they are part of its responsibility to keep the industry informed and rejected claims of confrontation or media avoidance.
