Trial of 11 Defendants in Arise News Anchor's Death Stalled Due to Absence

The trial of 11 defendants accused of causing the death of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, was delayed at the High Court in Jabi, Abuja, due to the defendants' absence. The defendants, including Shamsu Hassan Sani, Surajo Hassan Isah, and others, faced nine counts bordering on armed robbery, culpable homicide punishable by death, and other charges.

The prosecution, led by Adama Musa, informed the court that the defendants failed to produce the correct facilities in court, claiming they were unaware of the hearing date. The trial judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, adjourned the matter until February 10.

The prosecution alleged that the defendants used firearms, machetes, knives, and charms in the incident that led to Maduagwu's death. The defendants were also accused of robbing individuals of valuables, including electronic devices and cash.
