Celebrating General Abdusalami Abubakar's Legacy in Abuja

The launch of three books chronicling General Abdusalami Abubakar's life and public service took place at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, coinciding with his 84th birthday. This event transformed into a celebration of democratic statesmanship, attended by Nigeria's political, traditional, and business elite, including serving and former Presidents, Vice Presidents, federal lawmakers, traditional rulers, and business leaders.

President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, praised Abubakar for his duty, moderation, courage, and commitment to public service. Former President Goodluck Jonathan credited Abubakar with ensuring Nigeria's democratic stability by handing over power to an elected civilian government in 1999.

Former South African President Thabo Mbeki echoed this sentiment, highlighting Abubakar's prioritization of national interest over personal ambition. Abubakar's government is noted for its swift transition to democracy, contrasting with other military regimes.

He continues to play a significant role in Nigerian politics through the National Peace Committee, promoting dialogue and peaceful conduct during elections.
