Abuja Clarion Call for Sustainable Agricultural Financing

More than 500 African leaders, including ministers, policymakers, and development partners, adopted the Abuja Clarion Call on Sustainable Financing for Agricultural Research, Development and Innovation (AR4D) during the High-Level Ministerial Dialogue in Abuja, Nigeria. This event was organized by the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) and the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) as part of the 9th Africa Agriculture Science Week (AASW9).

Key figures included Senator Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of Nigeria; Ms Bongi Njobe, Chairperson of FARA; and Mr Mohammed Abu Ibrahim, Executive Secretary of NADF. The dialogue aimed to strengthen political commitment and mobilize investments for sustainable agricultural financing.

A keynote paper presented evidence that agricultural research is a high-return investment and emphasized the need for African countries to establish domestically anchored financing systems to combat food insecurity and reliance on international donors.
