Abuja MoU Admits Mauritania, Reappoints Umoren as Secretary-General in Maritime Affairs Meeting

The Abuja MoU has admitted Mauritania as its 21st full member and reappointed Captain Sundai Umoren as the Secretary-General for a four-year term. This decision was made during the 15th Port State Control Committee and 3rd Bureau meeting held in Conakry, Guinea.

Adegboyega Oyetola, Nigeria's Minister of Maritime and Blue Economy, chaired the session and emphasized the commitment to safer and cleaner seas. The meeting also endorsed new inspection focus areas and welcomed progress in maritime regulations.

The next Abuja MoU meetings will be held in Gabon in 2026 and Liberia in 2027. Bethel Olujobi reported on the maritime business developments in the region.
