Abuja Launches Youth Fund to Tackle Jobs Crisis

The Abuja Young Entrepreneur Competition has been launched to tackle the jobs crisis in Nigeria, which officials attribute to a skills gap. Managed by Chudi Ugwuada Ezirigw, the program aims to create structured pathways for young people aged 18-35 to convert ideas into viable businesses.

The initiative focuses on three sectors: ICT, creative industries, and agriculture. The application portal opened at midnight and will run across multiple platforms to ensure wider access.

The program is designed to provide targeted interventions for youth already possessing skills but lacking structural support. It emphasizes the importance of human capital development for economic growth.

Maureen Tamuno and Abiodun Akanbi also highlighted the need for mentorship and access to tools for refining business models. The competition, which closes on May 13, is expected to attract a new cohort of young entrepreneurs seeking to build sustainable ventures.

Previous winner Fatima Bello Suleiman noted the program's impact on her professional trajectory and self-belief.
