Abuja Police to Implement Mental Health Assessments

The Police Command in Abuja has ordered psychological and mental health assessments for its personnel, beginning on May 4, 2026. This initiative, directed by the command's leadership, aims to strengthen discipline and operational efficiency within the force.

The assessments will initially focus on junior officers and are part of a broader reform effort to ensure that officers maintain the highest standards of conduct while on duty. Sanusi, the police chief, emphasized the importance of adherence to human rights laws and warned against indiscipline, urging officers to uphold professionalism.

The move comes in response to renewed public concerns regarding police conduct, particularly following a viral video from Delta State that showed police officers allegedly involved in misconduct, which sparked nationwide outrage and calls for accountability and reform within the police force.
