FCT Police Command Implements Mental Health Screening

The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ahm Sanusi, has ordered comprehensive psychological and mental health assessments for police personnel within the command. This initiative, which will commence on May 4, 2026, aims to enhance emotional stability, sound judgment, and overall performance in duty execution.

The directive is part of broader measures to strengthen discipline and operational efficiency within the police force. The assessments will be conducted by the Police Counsel Unit, under the supervision of ACP Dr.

Ifayas Olabanji Akinola. CP Sanusi emphasized the importance of maintaining the highest standards of conduct and issued a strong warning against misconduct, urging officers to strictly adhere to human rights laws in the course of their duties.

This initiative comes in response to renewed public concerns regarding police conduct, particularly following a viral video from Delta State showing police involvement in the killing of a suspect, which sparked nationwide outrage.
