Offa Polytechnic Students Protest Welfare Issues, Halt Classes

Students at the Federal Polytechnic Offa halted academic activities on Monday due to unresolved welfare issues, prompting the Student Union Government to shut the institution's gates. This decision affected access to lecture halls and academic facilities.

The protest was led by the Student Union Government, which expressed dissatisfaction with the management's failure to address key demands despite previous engagements. Among the grievances raised were the lack of clarity surrounding the implementation of the tertiary institution's social health insurance program, poorly equipped clinics, and inadequate medical supplies.

The union highlighted overcrowded lecture halls resulting from increased admissions without corresponding infrastructure expansion, which hindered effective teaching and learning. Additionally, the union criticized the enforcement of a "no school fee, no entry, no test" policy, which they argued did not reflect the economic realities faced by students' families.

The union urged students to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the protest while calling for immediate compliance with the shutdown directive.
