EFCC Raid Causes Student Protests at KWARAPOLY

On Wednesday, a raid by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) near Kwara State Polytechnic (KWARAPOLY) in Ilorin triggered protests among students. The operation, which coincided with ongoing examinations, created panic as students reported seeing armed officers, leading to chaos on campus.

Eyewitness accounts and videos circulated on social media depicted students fleeing in different directions, heightening the atmosphere of fear. In response, a group of students staged a protest, burning tires along the old Jebba road, which led to a significant security presence to maintain order.

The management of KWARAPOLY issued a statement clarifying that the EFCC's operations did not occur on campus but in the nearby Agbed Village, and assured that no students were arrested during the operation. They emphasized their commitment to restoring a peaceful academic environment and urged the public to go about their daily activities without fear.

Efforts to obtain an official response from the EFCC were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
