Access Bank denies shutdown claims, confirms full operations

Access Bank has rejected false social media posts claiming the lender would cease operations, stating it remains financially stable and operational.

Access Bank Plc has firmly rejected viral claims on social media and messaging platforms that it would shut down operations. The bank stated that such posts do not originate from or represent its official communications, and that it continues to function normally across all divisions and subsidiaries.

Parent company Access Holdings Plc filed a formal notice with the Nigerian Exchange Limited on July 31, 2026, to officially deny the false publication. The filing confirmed that Access Bank maintains full operational capacity and that its financial condition remains unchanged.

The bank emphasized that all customer services continue without interruption. Both the bank and its holding company have involved regulatory authorities, law enforcement agencies, and security bodies to investigate the source of the misinformation.

Access Bank stated it intends to pursue legal remedies against those responsible for originating and spreading the false information. The bank appealed to customers, business partners, and members of the public to rely solely on official statements issued through its verified channels when seeking information about the institution's operations or status.

No timeline for the completion of the investigation into the false claims has been provided.
