OPay Digital Services has refuted false claims spreading across social media suggesting an operational halt starting September 1, 2026. The deceptive message circulated over the weekend on multiple platforms, falsely telling customers to immediately withdraw their funds in order to prevent losing access during what was portrayed as a prolonged shutdown.

Some users who saw the misinformation online made precautionary fund withdrawals. Across its verified social media accounts, OPay released an official response confirming that all its services remain fully operational and dismissing the shutdown allegation as baseless.

The company stressed that inconsistencies riddled the viral message and called on Nigerians to verify any information through official OPay channels before making financial decisions. The statement labeled the rumour as false, malicious, and misleading.

The fabricated notice mimicked an official communication ostensibly from OPay Digital Services Limited, asserting the organisation would enter an indefinite break and cease handling transactions and account inquiries. Such formatting probably enhanced its perceived authenticity when people saw it without background knowledge.
