Accord Party Demands Probe After Shooting of Osun Chairman

The Accord Party condemned the shooting of its Osun State chairman, Asimiyu Ajibola, who was reportedly shot by two gunmen on Wednesday night in Osogbo. Ajibola is currently receiving treatment at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital.

The party's national chairman, Maxwel Mgbudem, described the attack as politically motivated and called for an immediate investigation by security agencies. The shooting occurred around 9:50 PM when the assailants opened fire on Ajibola's vehicle.

The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident and stated that a manhunt is underway to identify and apprehend the attackers. Mgbudem emphasized that the attack reflects a troubling political atmosphere ahead of the August 12, 2026, governorship elections in Osun State.

He urged the police and the Department of State Services to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the masterminds behind this assassination attempt. The Accord Party has expressed outrage over the violence against its members and reaffirmed its support for Governor Ademola Adeleke's re-election bid.
