Alausa Warns Universities on Accreditation Manipulation

On Wednesday, in Abuja, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, issued a stern warning to universities and other tertiary institutions regarding the manipulation of accreditation exercises. He stated that officials who compromise these processes could face job loss, while private institutions risk having their licenses revoked.

Alausa emphasized that the government would no longer tolerate inflated or misrepresented academic capacities to secure accreditation, insisting that the quality of graduates must align with approved standards. He highlighted the challenges employers face in finding qualified graduates, citing a significant gap between the number of candidates and the few who meet qualifications.

Alausa also announced measures to prevent institutions from borrowing staff and resources to create a false impression during accreditation visits. This warning follows a controversy involving Atiba University in Oyo State, where the Council of Legal Education imposed a 10-year moratorium on its Law program due to inadequate facilities and unauthorized admissions.
