Education Minister Orders Expulsion for Kidnapping Students

Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, has directed vice chancellors, rectors, and provosts of tertiary institutions in Nigeria to expel any student found guilty of involvement in kidnapping or related criminal activities, following thorough investigations.

This directive was issued during a meeting with the Pro-Chancellor, Hon. Lola Fibisola Akande, and the management of the Federal University of Lafia in Abuja.

Alausa urged educational institutions to strengthen their internal intelligence networks and collaborate closely with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to enhance campus safety. He acknowledged that while most campuses are currently safe, recent incidents involving students outside campuses necessitate improved intelligence gathering.

Alausa also mentioned a recent strategic meeting with General Christopher Musa (Retired) to bolster the Safe Schools Initiative. He reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's policy against negotiating with kidnappers or paying ransoms, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a secure educational environment.
