ACF Rejects Obi's One-Term Pledge, Critiques Tinubu's Rule

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has publicly rejected Peter Obi's pledge to serve only one term if elected president in 2027, describing the promise as unnecessary and undemocratic. Tukur Baba, the ACF's Secretary, argued that such a commitment undermines democratic principles and is not supported by the constitution.

He emphasized that power rotation should not be institutionalized as it could deepen divisions in Nigeria, which is home to over 400 ethnic groups and three major religions. Baba further criticized Obi's commitment, stating it is unfair to deny Nigerians the opportunity to re-elect a performing leader.

He described Obi's pledge as irresponsible and indicative of tribal-based politics that could hinder national progress. Additionally, the ACF expressed disappointment with President Bola Tinubu's administration, labeling its performance over the past three years as "shambolic," particularly in addressing issues of insecurity and economic hardship.
