ACF Urges Nigerian Government to Tackle Insecurity Urgently

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), led by Chairman Bashir Dalhatu, has called on the Nigerian federal government to implement extraordinary measures to address the escalating insecurity in the country. This appeal was made in a communiqué issued at the conclusion of the 38th meeting of the forum's board of trustees held in Abuja.

The ACF noted that the security situation has deteriorated beyond routine government challenges, with persistent insurgency in the northeast, banditry, kidnapping in the northwest, and communal clashes in the north-central regions threatening national stability. The forum highlighted the human cost of the crisis, with hundreds of thousands of Nigerians killed and displaced across several states, including Borno, Plateau, and Kwara.

The ACF emphasized that the ongoing insecurity undermines the nation's economy, particularly agriculture, disrupts supply chains, and threatens rural livelihoods. They warned that unless urgent action is taken, the situation will worsen, leading to increased inflation and economic instability.

The ACF insists that restoring security is a prerequisite for national development.
