ACOMIN Urges Action on TB Test Delays in Taraba State
The Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunisation and Nutrition (ACOMIN) has expressed alarm over delays in tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis and a shortage of essential testing materials at two primary healthcare centres in Taraba State. Specifically, ACOMIN reported delays in the release of TB test results at Chanchanji Primary Healthcare Centre in Takum Local Government Area and a shortage of sputum collection cups at Ndaforo Primary Healthcare Centre in Kurmi Local Government Area.
These concerns were presented to the Taraba State TB Control Programme during an advocacy visit under the Global Fund GC7 Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) Project in Jalingo. ACOMIN called for prompt investigations and corrective actions, warning that such delays could undermine access to timely TB care.
Bala Yusuf, the Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB) Focal Person, assured that the complaints would be investigated. Additionally, ACOMIN sought the support of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) to enhance public awareness of malaria prevention and treatment, particularly among pregnant women and caregivers in Takum, Bali, Kurmi, and Donga local government areas.
