Makinde and Bala Clash Over Wike's PDP Peace Deal

The leadership crisis within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified as Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed have taken opposing stances regarding a peace deal initiated by Nyesom Wike. The PDP's Board of Trustees has endorsed a court appeal to support a reconciliation accord.

However, Bala Mohammed has rejected this initiative, asserting it will not succeed. Earlier, the PDP governors had endorsed the Ibadan convention scheduled for November 15, 2025, which is crucial for the party's leadership transition.

A faction loyal to Wike has formed a 13-member caretaker committee, with plans to appoint Mohammed Abdulrahman as acting national chairman. The Appeal Court is set to hear a consolidated case related to the PDP leadership crisis on February 12, with a judgment expected on March 9.

The court has granted the PDP leave to pursue a settlement, emphasizing the need for peace ahead of the 2027 general elections.
