PDP Factions Signal Readiness for Peace Talks Amid Crisis

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is experiencing internal strife as two factions express willingness to engage in peace talks to address ongoing leadership crises. Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State, and Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, have initiated dialogue following an advisory from the Court of Appeal in Nigeria, which urged the parties to resolve their differences amicably.

The court has scheduled a hearing for March 11, 2025, regarding an appeal that seeks to set aside a previous judgment from the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which nullified a convention held on November 15-16, 2025, that produced Tanimu Turaki as the party's national chairman. The faction led by Moham Abdulrahman, the current caretaker committee chairman, is in contrast to a ruling by Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court affirming the legitimacy of the convention.

Samuel Anyanwu, representing the faction, has indicated openness to dialogue, while accusations have been made against Makinde for allegedly fueling the crisis.
