Actor Baba Ijesha Released From Prison After Appeal Against Sexual Assault Conviction

Popular Yoruba actor Baba Ijesha has been freed from prison following an appeal against his conviction for sexually assaulting a minor. Yomi Fabiyi, a close associate, made the announcement on Instagram.

Baba Ijesha had been sentenced to 16 years in prison by the Lagos High Court in July 2022, but his jail term is expected to run concurrently cumulatively for five years until April 2024. The case sparked nationwide outrage and intense debate within the Nollywood community and on social media.

Fabiyi claimed that the court found no evidence of Baba Ijesha defiling the minor and accused others involved in the case of manipulation.
