Opposition Fragmentation in Adamawa Politics

Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, popularly known as Binani, joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress in May. On September 12, Haske announced his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and accepted the governorship nomination from the Allied Peoples Movement.

These developments illustrate a more dispersed opposition landscape in Adamawa, creating distinct centers of political ambition outside the governing party. While every candidate has the right to contest, the article argues that treating separate candidacies as a united electoral force is an analytical mistake.

The ballot does not accommodate a collective opposition against a single candidate, as votes are cast for individual candidates, and shared hostility does not allow for the combination of totals after the election.
