Ex-Adamawa Speaker Mijinyawa Joins APM from APC

On September 13, 2026, Alhaji Kabiru Mijinyawa, the former Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly and current member representing Yola South State Constituency, defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Action People’s Movement (APM) along with thousands of supporters. In his resignation letter addressed to the APC state chairman, Mijinyawa criticized the party for its lack of rule of law and transparency, particularly regarding the recent APC primary elections, which he described as lacking internal democracy.

His departure followed a similar mass defection led by Alhaji Tahir Shehu, who also cited internal party issues. The defections have intensified political tensions in Adamawa State, especially with Alhaji Abdulraman Haske securing the APM governorship ticket after being replaced as the APC candidate.

The APC's publicity secretary, Mr Dogo Victor, dismissed the defections as "political tourism" and expressed confidence in the party's grassroots support under Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
