Adamawa State Government Commits to Dairy Development

The Adamawa State Government has pledged to maintain the advancements achieved through the Advancing Local Dairy Development in Nigeria (ALDDN) programme, which officially concluded at an event in Yola. This five-year initiative aimed to enhance Nigeria's local dairy value chain and uplift the livelihoods of smallholder dairy farmers, particularly women.

Implemented by Sahel Consulting Agriculture and Nutrition Limited in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Admiral’s Dairy, the programme spanned several states including Adamawa, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Plateau, Bauchi, and Taraba. In Adamawa, thousands of smallholder farmers were organized into cooperatives and benefited from financial inclusion, modern dairy practices, and health interventions.

Dr. Nyalas Barth, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock and Aquaculture Development, expressed gratitude to the partners and assured ongoing support for the cooperatives and milk collection structures. The event also allowed stakeholders to discuss future measures to ensure continued benefits for dairy farmers and communities.
