Northern Senators Demand Urgent State Police Bill Passage

The Northern Senators Forum (NSF), chaired by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua of Katsina Central Senatorial District, has called for the urgent establishment and operationalization of State Police in Nigeria. This demand follows recent terrorist attacks in Adamawa and Sokoto states that resulted in over 36 deaths, including security personnel and worshippers.

The senators urged the Federal Government, state governors, and State Houses of Assembly to prioritize the State Police Bill currently awaiting ratification. They argue that decentralized policing is essential for improving response times and intelligence gathering at the grassroots level.

The NSF condemned the bureaucratic delays that hinder critical security reforms and expressed condolences to the victims' families. They also advocated for strengthening community vigilante groups as vital partners in combating insecurity.

The senators stressed that immediate and coordinated action is necessary to address the ongoing security challenges in the country.
