Northern Senators Forum Supports Army Expansion After Killings

On Wednesday, the Northern Senators Forum condemned the tragic killings in Benue and Kaduna states, calling for justice against the perpetrators. The forum, led by Chairman Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, expressed solidarity with the affected families and supported the Federal Government's security measures, including the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions and the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel.

This initiative aims to decentralize military command, strengthen border security, and improve response times to security threats. The forum highlighted that the expansion must be accompanied by adequate equipment, logistics, and improved welfare for military personnel.

They urged residents to provide timely intelligence to security agencies and called for the swift arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the attacks. The recent assaults in Benue, where 13 people were killed, and in Kaduna, where about 30 were killed, underscore ongoing security challenges in northern and central Nigeria.
