Adamawa Speaker and 15 Lawmakers Leave PDP Amid Crisis

On Wednesday, Bathiya Weslei, the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, announced his resignation from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), along with 14 other lawmakers. This decision was influenced by ongoing crises within the party at the national level.

The resignation follows a similar move by Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, who stepped down during a plenary session on Tuesday. Weslei expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided by the PDP for electoral contests.

The defecting lawmakers include notable figures such as Deputy Speaker Moham Buba Jada and representatives from various constituencies. They held a closed-door meeting with Governor Fintiri for two hours on the same day.

Additionally, Senator Bino Yaro, representing Adamawa South, also resigned from the PDP, citing internal party crises and is expected to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to secure a senatorial ticket for the 2027 elections. The situation indicates a potential shift in political alliances within the state.
