ADC Rejects Suspension of Atiku Abubakar and Lawal

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has publicly rejected the suspension of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, which was announced by a faction led by Raji Zumo in Adamawa State. ADC's national spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi stated that the suspension lacks legitimacy and is not recognized within the party.

Zumo's faction accused Abubakar and Lawal of creating disunity and undermining the party's authority, but ADC's national leadership dismissed these claims as baseless. The party is currently facing internal disputes, with a leadership vacuum following the expulsion of members during a convention on April 14.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has withdrawn recognition of the party's leadership structure amid these disputes. David Mark, a former Senate President, affirmed the party's integrity, while ADC's official statement characterized the faction's actions as driven by desperation and political hunger.

The situation raises questions about ADC's viability as a serious opposition force ahead of the 2027 elections.
