Atiku Abubakar's ADC Suspension Linked to Drug Claims

Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, alleged that Atiku Abubakar's suspension from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is linked to his use of Indian hemp. This statement was made during a press conference by Raji Zumo, the faction chairman of the ADC in Adamawa State.

Sadiq Ibrahim, the ADC's transit committee chairman, supported Lawal's claims, asserting that the actions taken against young members of the party reflect a disregard for normalcy. The Adamawa State chapter of the ADC is currently embroiled in a leadership crisis, with Shehu Yohanna, the state chairman, filing a lawsuit to halt the congress due to alleged irregularities.

A ruling by Justice A.H. Isa of the Adamawa State High Court on Thursday suspended the ADC congress slate until the case is resolved, with the next hearing scheduled for April 15, 2026.

Lawal, when contacted, stated he was unaware of the court's ruling.
