ADC Challenges Presidency to Debate Fuel Subsidy Removal

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a challenge to the Presidency for a public debate on the removal of the petrol subsidy, asserting that Nigerians deserve factual discourse rather than insults. This challenge follows remarks from Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and National Orientation, who criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's proposal for a targeted subsidy as part of his economic recovery plan.

Dare accused Atiku, the ADC presidential candidate, of hypocrisy and urged Nigerians to reject his proposal, labeling it a "desperate gambit." In response, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC's National Publicity Secretary, stated that the government has failed to demonstrate the benefits of subsidy removal after three years of implementation. Abdullahi criticized the government for mocking the hardships faced by Nigerians and called for issue-based engagement rather than rhetoric.

He also referenced past comments by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding subsidy removal, emphasizing the need for a real debate.
