Court Nullifies ADC Congresses in Adamawa State

The Yola state high court has declared the local government congresses conducted by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State as null and void. The judgment, delivered by Justice Isa Ahm, followed a suit filed by Comrade Shehu Yohanna, the state chairman of the ADC, who challenged the validity of the congress.

The court found that the congress did not comply with established legal procedures, violating Section 84(4) of the Electoral Act and Article 18 of the ADC constitution. Justice Ahm noted several irregularities, including improper notice and inappropriate venues for the elections.

The court emphasized that actions taken in defiance of a valid court order cannot stand under the law, leading to the nullification of the congresses conducted during the pendency of an earlier interim order.
