Court Nullifies Adamawa ADC Congress Over Legal Breaches

On a Monday, the High Court in Yola, presided over by Justice Isah Ahm, ruled that the Adamawa State congress of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was null and void. The court found that the congress violated Section 84(4) of the Electoral Act and Article 18 of the ADC constitution, leading to the declaration that the exercise was invalid.

The ruling came in response to a challenge from Comrade Shehu Yohanna, the Adamawa State chairman of the ADC, who argued that the congress did not comply with established legal procedures for party operations. The court noted that the defendants failed to adhere to the laid-down guidelines and instead relied on self-imposed procedural rules.

Following the judgment, Martin Dickson, a former public secretary of the ADC, stated that the party would await further decisions regarding its leadership in Abuja and the next steps to be taken in light of the court's ruling.
