ADC Faction in Adamawa Holds Congress Despite Court Order

The Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) conducted its local government and ward congresses over the weekend, resulting in the election of Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin as the new state chairman. This event occurred in defiance of a court order that had suspended the congresses.

Legal practitioner Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin emerged as the new state chairman, with the congress reportedly organized without awareness of the court order that aimed to halt the exercise. The internal party rivalry is primarily between factions loyal to Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and those aligned with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Earlier in the week, Yohana Shehu, the state chairman aligned with Atiku's camp, approached the court, arguing that the committee organizing the congress failed to consult the executive. Despite the court's order, the congress proceeded, resulting in the formation of a new state executive committee.
