Makinde, Mohammed Halt ADC Defections Amid Crisis

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed have opted not to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) due to ongoing leadership crises within the party. Sources close to Makinde indicated that he would slow down and consult before making any moves regarding the ADC.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cast doubt on the ADC's leadership by derecognizing it, which has led to uncertainty among members considering a shift to the party. Despite earlier indications of a potential defection, both governors are currently reassessing their political futures.

Bala Mohammed, who is also the chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, noted that there has been no meaningful progress in reconciliation efforts within the PDP. Meanwhile, the ADC is preparing for a national convention scheduled for April 14 in Abuja, amidst a backdrop of legal disputes regarding its leadership structure.
