ADC Lawmakers Reconsider Defection Amid Leadership Crisis

Lawmakers from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are experiencing uncertainty regarding their defection plans due to an ongoing leadership crisis within the party. This situation has arisen following the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) decision not to recognize the national working committee led by former Senate President David Mark.

Mansur Soro, representing the Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency in Bauchi State, had previously indicated plans to defect to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) but has now stated that his decision remains unchanged despite INEC's ruling. Similarly, Jess Onuakalusi, a lawmaker from Lagos who recently defected to ADC from the Labour Party, has not disclosed his next move amid the persistent leadership crisis.

Uchenna Okonkwo, representing the Idemili North/Idemili South Federal Constituency in Anambra State, downplayed the significance of INEC's decision and expressed optimism that the dispute would eventually be resolved through legal processes. He also noted that the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, could influence defecting lawmakers.
