ADC Critiques Akpabio's Comments on Electoral Act 2026

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has publicly criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio over his comments regarding the Electoral Act 2026, which he made during an event in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on a Saturday. Akpabio's remarks dismissed opposition concerns about the legislation, which the ADC argues could weaken political parties and undermine Nigeria's democracy.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC's national public secretary, expressed that certain provisions in the law appear designed to cripple political parties and send a troubling message about ethical standards in Nigerian politics. He specifically pointed out provisions that bar electoral petitions based on certificate forgery, which he believes conflict with the Nigerian Constitution.

Abdullahi stated that such amendments could damage the country's democratic standards and suggested that they send a negative message to the youth, implying that certificate forgery would no longer have serious consequences. The ADC maintains its commitment to protecting democratic principles and providing credible political alternatives for Nigerians.
