ADC Criticizes Akpabio Over 2026 Electoral Act Changes

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has publicly criticized Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, regarding the 2026 Electoral Act. The ADC, represented by its National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that the act's provisions allowing for the removal of certificate forgery as a ground for challenging election results will lead to a harsh historical judgment on Akpabio and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The ADC argues that the law is designed to undermine political parties and democracy in Nigeria, suggesting that it reflects a troubling trend of lowering ethical standards in governance. Abdullahi emphasized that the law contradicts various sections of the Nigerian Constitution, which disqualify individuals presenting forged certificates from holding public office.

He warned that such legislative actions could reinforce negative stereotypes about corruption in Nigerian public life and ultimately harm the country's democratic integrity.
