ADC Demands Release of Nasir El-Rufai as 'Prisoner of Conscience'

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has demanded the immediate release of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, referring to him as a "prisoner of conscience." This resolution was reached during the party's 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on a Saturday. The NEC unanimously recognized El-Rufai as a victim of political persecution and called for his freedom, emphasizing that someone detained for their beliefs should not be punished.

The meeting also ratified the outcomes of the party's recent primary elections and approved significant organizational changes in preparation for the 2027 general elections. The NEC's communique stated that the party aims to strengthen its internal structure and expand its membership base.

Additionally, the party's leadership, represented by National Chairman David Mark, urged members to remain united and focus on presenting the ADC as a credible alternative to the current government, addressing Nigeria's security and economic challenges.
