ADC Announces Congress Dates Despite INEC Derecognition

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared its intention to proceed with planned congresses and a convention despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) derecognizing its leadership. In a notice released on Friday by spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC stated that the congress will take place from April 7 to April 14, 2026.

The party plans to screen aspirants on April 7, followed by an appeal screening on April 8. The congress will include local government congresses on April 9, an appeal on April 10, state congresses on April 11, and an appeal for state congresses on April 12, culminating in the national convention on April 14, 2026.

The ADC condemned INEC's decision, with former Senate President David Mark calling for the resignation of INEC Chairman Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan. Amupitan's decision was based on a pending court case, and the ADC has been cautioned to proceed with its congresses while disregarding judicial directives.
