ADC Demands Resignation of INEC Chairman Amupitan

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the immediate resignation of Prof. Joash Amupitan, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), due to allegations of partisanship and attempts to undermine Nigeria's electoral system. In a statement released on Saturday, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi accused Amupitan of being pro-President Bola Tinubu and of attempting to erase digital trails that could compromise electoral integrity ahead of the 2027 general elections. Abdullahi emphasized that Amupitan's actions represent a serious threat to the credibility and neutrality of Nigeria's electoral process. He referred to Amupitan's conduct as falling far below the expected standards for an electoral umpire, stating that such behavior cannot be tolerated. The ADC has raised alarms about a calculated plot to weaken opposition parties and manipulate electoral records, asserting that the integrity of Nigeria's democracy is at stake. The party plans to update relevant institutions, including foreign governments and the Nigerian Bar Association, regarding these concerns.
