ADC Caucus Demands INEC Chairman's Removal Over Bias

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Reps Caucus has demanded the removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, due to allegations of partisanship.

This demand was made during an inaugural meeting held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, where members reviewed recent political developments and expressed concerns regarding the credibility of the electoral umpire. The ADC lawmakers accused Yakubu of actions that contradict the expected impartiality of the electoral body, referencing his alleged support for the ruling party and controversial social media posts related to claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria.

Despite INEC denying any links to Yakubu's personal accounts, the caucus insists on an online investigation. They warned that failure to address these issues could undermine public trust and threaten the credibility of the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The ADC further alleged collusion between INEC officials and the judiciary, influencing outcomes in pending court cases involving the ADC's leadership, with a scheduled hearing on April 14, 2026.
