ADC Demands INEC Chairman's Resignation Ahead of 2027

Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have called for the immediate resignation of Professor Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging that he is orchestrating a scheme to undermine the party in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This demand was articulated in a speech delivered on behalf of the ADC's national chairman, David Mark, at the Yar'Adua Centre in Abuja.

INEC quickly rebuffed these allegations, with Chief Press Secretary Adedayo Oketola stating that Amupitan does not hold office at the pleasure of any political party. The ADC leaders accused INEC of acting in concert with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to weaken opposition parties, particularly following INEC's decision to delist key ADC figures from its website.

The ADC is currently facing a leadership crisis stemming from disputes over the tenure of former national chairman Ralph Nwosu, which has led to multiple court cases and uncertainty within the party as it prepares for the upcoming elections.
